Weapon design – Shield

As with the sword design, I needed to research designs for my shield i needed to make. To help brainstorm ideas, i made a mood board.

However, after looking at these design of different shields, i couldn’t come up with any designs that i liked or wanted to start working on. Since i had freedom in what i could design and model, i started looking at other things i could work on that would fit. After looking at different items i could make, i settled on designing a book.

I drew inspiration for this idea from seeing the character Robin and how they are depicted in Super Smash Brothers 4. They use a sword in their right hand to attack and the book in their left hand to do more defensive magic, so i wanted to do something similar.

I didn’t have a theme for my weapons yet, so i decided that i would design my other weapon first and then match that theme for my book. This would enable me to properly theme my weapons and allow me to play around with adding different designs when it came to modelling my book. However, i decided on simple things about the design, such as it being a hardback book and for it to have lose papers hanging out of the pages to help create a more interesting design. using these ideas, i made a rough drawing of my design that i can use to model with later.
