Animating a lamp.

For my final project in animation fundamentals i have been animating a lamp similar to the Pixar lamp. For this animation, I focused on using exaggeration, appeal, follow through and anticipation from the 12 principles of animation to help characterize my lamp. The lamp will only be performing a simple jump to start out with, however i can use these principles to add in extra actions and make the jump unique.

To start with, i used anticipation to make the lamp crouch down to prepare for the jump, showing the viewer what action it is about to perform. I also used secondary animation while it is crouched and made it look left to right, making the lamp seem nervous or curious about its surroundings. I used secondary action again before the lamp jumps, making it look up and down before it leaps into the air. For the jump, i added in two platforms for the lamp to jump across to as this provides the animation with context, rather than having the lamp jump for no reason. As it lands, the lamp slides a bit before stopping at the edge of the platform, a use of exaggeration to make the jump seem bigger than it was and to emphasise the weight of the lamp itself. Finally, the lamp looks down from the edge of the platform and then to the camera, giving it appeal as if the lamp was checking that you saw the jump.
