Environments

For research into environments, i need to look into 4 different artists and choose a piece of their work to discuss.

Simon Stalenhag

This is quite a calm and peaceful piece. It uses mainly darker colours, like blues and browns, to build up the scene. This is contrasted by the orange of the planet in the background and the light it shines onto the water.

Ian Mcque

The overall style of Ian Mcque seems to be steampunk ships, which is shown off well here. It has a clear focal point, being the ship in the foreground, but the background is just as interesting, showing off a steampunk city. Everything in the piece looks cobbled together and could easily fall apart, which fits well into the theme.

I like the composition of this piece, as i think it flows well. Your eyes get drawn to the large samurai mech, but if you follow along his sword you see the man standing there as if they’re in a standoff. They also seem to be in different grounds, with the human in the foreground and the samurai in the background, creating good depth.

Ashley Wood

I feel like the focal point of this piece seems to be the girl on the right, as she has brighter colours compared to the rest of the piece, where everything is more grey and brown. She also seems to be more detailed than the rest of the piece, which is more smudged.
